The UN climate summit was locked in eleventh-hour negotiations on Tuesday

Nana Akua has branded the COP28 summit a “jolly” as Saudi Arabia threatened to throw a deal into jeopardy.

It comes as the UN climate summit was locked in eleventh-hour negotiations on Tuesday after a fallout over whether to commit to the phaseout of fossil fuels.

Negotiatiors claim about 80 per cent of the almost 200 countries present were seeking to strengthen draft conclusions that suggested only voluntary reductions in gas, oil and coal production and consumption.

Speaking on GB News, Nana Akua said the conference was a waste of time in the first place, hitting out at Rishi Sunak spending more time travelling to and forth than being present.

“People are coming to the realisation that without fossil fuels, we would be bankrupt”, she told Patrick Christys.

“Rishi Sunak went to COP and he spent more time flying there and back rather than being at the conference.

“Most flew by private jet. The king went by private jet, David Cameron did and Rishi Sunak.

“How stupid do they think we are? In the oil rich country of Dubai. Hello?”

Patrick Christys waded in to jokingly remark about the “only benefit” for those present at the conference.

Due to Dubai’s strict protest laws, the likes of Greta Thunberg were unable to make their voices heard outside the venue like they have done so in previous years.

Christys suggested had she or Just Stop Oil been present, they would have been “carted off” to prison.

Speaking on the new draft proposal, the UK Government made their disappointment clear.

“This draft is disappointing and does not go far enough”, they said.

“The UK position is clear - there must be a phase-out of unabated fossil fuels to meet our climate goals.”

Wading in on the watered-down law was EU climate commissioner Woke Hoekstra.

“There is a supermajority [of countries] that do want more ambition”, he said.

“That is what we owe to everyone watching around the world.”
