Border Force and the UK Coastguard officers are reportedly searching in the Channel for three migrants feared dead after rescuing two from a sinking dinghy off the coast of Harwich, Essex.
The rescue is being coordinated by HM Coastguard, and a helicopter and fixed wing plane have been utilised in the search.
According to reports from the Mail Online, the passengers of the dinghy may have left France as early as the weekend.
Authorities have reportedly already rescued two people, but they understand that there may be up to three people still in the water.
The location of the search and rescue mission, off the coast of Harwich, Essex, is not the usual area for migrants to attempt crossings by inflatable.
A Home Office spokesperson told GB News: "Border Force and the UK Coastguard are currently working on a coordinated search and rescue operation following an incident on Monday.
"Further details will be provided after the initial response and once the situation has been resolved."
A spokesperson from the Coastguard told GB News: "HM Coastguard has been coordinating a search and rescue response to an incident off Essex, working with Border Force and other partners. We sent the coastguard helicopter from Lydd and a coastguard fixed wing aircraft.
"HM Coastguard will continue to safeguard life around the seas and coastal areas of the UK, working with search and rescue resources in the area. If a vessel needs search and rescue assistance, HM Coastguard will continue to respond and rescue those in danger."
