Michelle received an official statement confirming they 'respect the choice of members to use changing room facilities based on the gender they identify with'

Michelle Dewberry claimed that she "won't take this lying down" after she cancelled her Virgin Active gym membership after finding a man in the female changing room and receiving confirmation of the company's transgender policy.

The GB News presenter revealed she was shocked to discover a male in the female-only facilities at her gym.

After questioning Virgin Active about their policy, Michelle received an official statement confirming they "respect the choice of members to use changing room facilities based on the gender they identify with."

Michelle has strongly criticised this stance, arguing it contradicts UK law regarding self-identification.

Speaking on GB News Michelle said: "If you’ve followed my saga about my gym, I was away on business and left the gym changing room the other day.

"If you’ve been following my story, I was quite surprised putting it mildly. I saw a man in there.

"I clarified the policy with Virgin Active, and they surprised me, ladies and gents, by telling me that in the female changing room, children, transgender females, females of all ages, and non-binary members were allowed. What does that actually mean anyway?"

She added: "I should be entitled to go into a facility and get changed in the presence of other females without men being permitted to be in there just because the policy says they can be, based on how they identify at that moment in time.

"There’s something wrong with this, ladies and gents, and I feel we need to push back against it. If you’re happy with that, good for you. But I, for one, am not.

"This is not the end of this story for me, I can tell you that."

She explained: "I will no take this lying down."

She confirmed she had cancelled her membership as a direct result of the policy.

This controversy follows similar disputes over single-sex spaces in the UK.

The founder of The Girls Spot gym in Wandsworth, London recently faced intense criticism after announcing her venue would be a "single-sex space for biological women" only.

The responseThe response that Michelle received made her "uncomfortable" GB NEWS

The gym owner has been forced to restrict her social media accounts due to backlash.

She has been "absolutely battered by activists online," Dewberry reported.

Transgender broadcaster India Willoughby suggested women who "look trans" might face an "undie inspection" at the gym.

Critics argue transgender women also face harassment and should not be excluded from such spaces.

Virgin Active told GB News: "In accordance with UK law and industry guidance, we respect the choice of our members to use the changing room facilities based on the gender they identify with.

"We support and respect all our members and their safety and privacy remains our highest priority. We continue to ensure our policies remain legal, fair and inclusive."
