Matt Goodwin says an ideological war is “raging against the West” after a shock poll exposed Britons’ attitudes towards their country’s achievements.
Speaking on GB News, the leading pollster discussed the findings that suggest Britain has also become more inclusive in its attitudes.
The poll comes at a fraught time for the country after riots swept the nation in August.

“The million dollar question is, why is that happening? A conservative would say it’s because we’re denigrating our history.
“If you’re on the Left, you would say it’s a reflection of how diverse our society is becoming. What’s clear is, this isn’t going away anytime soon.”

He went onto cite Frank Furedi - an author who has frequently spoken out on history being “falsified”.
He said: “People like Frank would say this reflects the ideological war that is raging against Western societies.”
Political commentator Judita DaSilva said she could not fully get on board with Goodwin’s suggestion as people have independent thought.
“I disagree to some extent. It does a disservice to individual thought and critical thinking”, she said.
National pride has dipped, according to a new poll
PA“There’s also the added stimulus like what your family and culture is like. When I went to Birmingham New Street station, I saw the most eclectic mix of people ever, it was great.
“When you have a world like that, if you have multi-ethnic societies, when I go to school I pursue accountability and ask why it never came when I see how certain ethnicities were treated.
“This is coming organically from people thinking, ‘my world is populated a certain way - I want to live in it with a recognition of people living equally.”
Goodwin countered her point by saying children are often taught in a “one-way” manner, meaning only the troubles of the British past are brought up.
The survey, carried out by the National Centre for Social Research (Nathan), asked around 1,600 people their attitudes on British life.
The number of people who describe themselves as “truly British” has fallen from 74 per cent in 2013 to 55 per cent in 2023.
