Lucy Thomson was subsequently stripped of her title

A former Miss Scotland bit a security guard and racially abused him while being thrown out of a rugby tournament, a court has heard.

Lucy Thomson was accused of biting Andrew Okpaje’s hand and called him the n-word while being thrown out of the Edinburgh City 7s competition.

She also reportedly bit another guard while shouting “do you know who I am?” and “I’ve got so much money in my account” during the incident in June 2023.

Thomson was arrested after Okpaje called the police on her to report the racist language.

Footage of the then-Miss Scotland at the time and her sister getting kicked out went viral on social media.

She was subsequently stripped of her title.

Although the 26-year-old denied the charges, she was found guilty at Edinburgh Sheriff Court on Friday after a two-day trial.

Speaking to the court, Okpaje recounted how the decision to escort Thomson and her sister from the area was due to her being drunk.

He said as he tried to remove her, she began “fighting back”, and said he was then assaulted.

“We were holding her and trying to be as gentle as possible and as I had my arm up she went to bite it. It left a mark on my hand,” he added.

“I looked at her in shock and then she proceed to call me the ‘n’ word. She looked directly at me and with confidence she said ‘f**k you then, you f**king n****r’.”

The security guard said he was shocked, adding: “It was pretty horrible”.

Thomson denied using the slur and biting the two men, claiming she was the one assaulted.

She said she saw her sister being “cornered into a woodland area” by security staff before she was “struck from behind” by a security officer and had her “arms pinned to her side” and “dragged across a rugby pitch” with no warning.

She claimed she only thing she did was shout for help.

Thomson also denied having her title of Miss Scotland revoked, claiming she simply passed it on in September 2023.

After hearing the the evidence, Sheriff Derek O’Carroll said he found Thomson’s account to be “utterly implausible” and found her guilty of assaulting both men and racially abusing Okpaje.

Thomson was fined £790 and will need to pay the charge within two months.
