A 21-year-old man has been jailed for three and a half years after stabbing a member of staff at Charing Cross station in London.
Jonathan Daniel attacked the worker who had asked him to move away from the station entrance where he was causing a disturbance and being aggressive towards passengers.
The incident, which took place on Friday, October 20, 2023, left the victim with serious injuries including a broken rib and bleeding around the lung.
Police say Daniel became increasingly aggressive when confronted by the staff member at the station.
As the victim turned away to radio for assistance from colleagues, Daniel stabbed them in the back.
After the attack, Daniel fled the scene with the knife still in his hand.
Hours later, officers spotted Daniel in Leicester Square and arrested him.
At the time of his arrest, he was still carrying the knife used in the attack.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:Investigating officer DC Gemma Lee said: "This was a horrific attack on someone who was just doing their job, helping to keep the railway network and those who use it safe."
"The victim suffered a broken rib and bleeding around the lung and remains traumatised by the events of that afternoon," she added.
"There is no excuse for carrying knives or any other weapons on the rail network and we continue to work tirelessly to remove them from the railway."
At Inner London Crown Court on Tuesday, Daniel pleaded guilty to grievous bodily harm, possession of a knife and religious/racially aggravated harassment.
