'At least one gunshot' had reportedly been fired at the scene where a man in his 20s was pronounced dead, police said

A murder investigation has been launched by police after a man was killed in Central London late last night.

Officers had been called in after a fight reportedly broke out between Edgware Road and Bell Street, to find a man "suffering from a knife wound injury", the Metropolitan Police said.


"At least one gunshot" had reportedly been fired, the Met added.

An eyewitness told GB News what they saw last night, saying: "I was just waiting to cross the road and saw three police cars drive by.

"I saw blue flashing lights round the corner from the tube entrance. The road was closed off at the junction and I could see the ambulance down the road.

"My thoughts are with the person's family."

A full police statement read: "A murder investigation has been launched in Westminster.

"Police were called at 10.40pm on Tuesday, June 4, to reports of a fight on Bell Street, at the junction with Edgware Road, NW1.

"Officers responded and found a man suffering from a knife wound injury. They administered CPR before London Ambulance Service paramedics arrived.

"Sadly, despite the best efforts of emergency services, the man - aged in his late 20s - died at the scene.

"Police believe they know who the man is and are working to inform his next of kin.

"Three men have been arrested and remain in custody at Central London police stations. A number of crime scenes are in place and urgent enquiries are progressing.

Police have urged any witnesses or anyone with images and video that could help with the investigation to call 101 or get in touch with @MetCC on social media using reference number CAD 8545/04JUN.

As a result of a police cordon, a number of London bus services - the 6, 16 and 98 - have been diverted, with the road blocked in both directions according to traffic analysts Inrix.

The Bakerloo line underground station at Edgware Road has been closed as a result of the cordon - though Circle, Hammersmith & City and District line services are still operational.
