Merseyside Police said tests are underway to determine the substance used in the 'targeted attack'

A Liverpool teenager is fighting for his life after he was sprayed with an “unknown substance” in a horror attack which saw him receive “slash wounds”.

The 16-year-old boy is in critical condition and remains in hospital. Meanwhile, tests are being carried out to identify the substance that was used.

Officers were alerted to an incident at a property on Harrow Road, in the Anfield area of Liverpool at 7.30pm on Saturday, 28 December.

They received reports that three males entered the house and sprayed an unknown substance on the victim.

The three males also left the victim with slash wounds on his head, back and buttocks, Merseyside Police said.

Detectives are appealing for anyone with information on the “targeted attack” to contact them.

They are also going house-to-house in the area to check CCTV, as well as conducting tests to determine what the substance is.

The force said the suspects “were wearing tracksuits, had face coverings and spoke with Liverpool accents”.

Earlier this month, a 22-year-old man was injured in a “chemical attack” at Hyde Park’s Winter Wonderland.

The young man was hospitalised after being doused with what's thought to be an “alkaline liquid” at the popular festive attraction in London.

The Metropolitan Police said a 16-year-old boy and two men, aged 18 and 21, were arrested after the incident.
