Lincolnshire County Council met yesterday to discuss the growing problem

New traffic enforcement measures have been introduced around a school in Lincoln following complaints about students "abandoning" their vehicles and causing parking chaos.

The rules target problem parking near Priory Academy LSST on Cross O'Cliff Hill, where students have been blocking footpaths and driveways.

As a result of the youths, local residents have been forced to walk in the road to get around parked vehicles, prompting action from the planning committee.

The new regulations were approved yesterday at a Lincolnshire County Council meeting to address the ongoing issues affecting the neighbourhood.

Under the new measures, waiting will be banned at any time on both sides of Cross O'Cliff Hill near the school's top entrance.

Additional restrictions will limit parking between 8am and 6pm, Monday to Friday, further along Cross O'Cliff Hill.

The same weekday parking restrictions will also apply to nearby Cross O'Cliff Close.

These measures were implemented after the planning committee agreed to the new regulations to tackle nuisance parking around the academy.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

Labour Councillor Kevin Clarke told the committee: "It's unfair on residents when verges are churned up, and paths and driveways are blocked.

"Cars were not exactly parked on the footpath - they were abandoned by students from the nearby school."

He highlighted safety concerns at the junction: "The junction of the Hill and the Close is unbelievable as you have to pull onto the Hill to see traffic when cars are blocking the view, which is so dangerous."

Clarke noted that similar issues affect other schools in the area, saying: "There are five schools in my ward in Boultham, and there are major parking issues outside four of them."

The measures come as part of a wider push to address parking problems around Lincoln schools, with four out of five schools in the Boultham ward experiencing similar issues.
