A further two arrests have been made following a car ploughing into four pedestrians in Leicester in the early hours of Saturday.

Emergency crews rushed to the scene in De Montfort Street, where three of the victims were rushed to hospital in Leicester with "serious" injuries following the collision that occurred shortly after 12:30am yesterday.


All three remain in hospital, while the fourth is said to have suffered "minor injuries".

Leicestershire Police have now made three arrests.

A 28-year-old man from Leicester has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and causing serious injury by dangerous driving following the collision.

A second man, aged 34 and also from Leicester, has been arrested on suspicion of affray.

Both men are in police custody alongside a 31-year-old man who was arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm with intent and causing serious injury by dangerous driving shortly after the incident.

A large cordon, which was in place in the area of De Montfort Street, has now been lifted, and officers will remain in the area on foot patrol offering reassurance to the public.

Police have encouraged the public to tell officers any concerns they may have.

Leicestershire Police said that they have also received reports of a fight at the same location earlier in the night.

A car, which is believed to be the vehicle that hit the pedestrians, has been recovered by police after they found it nearby Margaret Street.

Detective Inspector Jenny Tattersall said: "We have been working tirelessly today to understand the sequence of events and how the incidents of the early hours occurred."

He added: "The cordon was in place for much of today to allow for thorough investigations to be carried out, including the attendance of forensic officers. This has now been lifted.

"We do continue to ask that people do not speculate about this incident, including on social media, in order to allow our investigation to continue. We will continue to provide updates and information as and when we are able to.

"Officers will remain in the area on foot patrol offering reassurance. Please do speak with them regarding any information you may have or any concerns you may have.
