’Spineless and pathetic!’ Lee Anderson lashes out at ‘two-tier policing’ after man who sent Reform MP death threat is spared jail

He joined Patrick Christys on the People’s Channel to discuss the case, saying MPs are on ‘red alert’ following a series of threats against them by members of the public.

“This was a case picked up by our Parliamentary team here in Westminster, and I wasn’t made aware of this threat by the police until a month after”, Lee said on GB News.

“This man could be lurking around in London. He’s made a vile threat against a member of Parliament and it’s took a month for police to actually inform me.

“We’re on red alert, some of us MPs. We’re always looking over our shoulder, worried about going to work and especially in the city as well, with things that go off.

“I just don’t think it’s good enough. I don;’t think they’re taking the safety of certain MPs from certain political persuasions seriously enough.

“It’s absolute nonsense. It’s weakness. It’s spineless. It’s pathetic. It’s two-tier policing.”

The threat, which was posted to X, said Lee’s “time was up” and he was “going to track him down and kill him”.

After the direct death threat, he was arrested but not charged.

The police wrote to the Reform MP explaining their decision, saying they had “no reason to think the threat was real or viable as a threat to kill”.

The man making the threat had no previous convictions and has autism.

The Met Police told GB News: "On 5 August the Met Police was made aware of an incident of malicious communications following a post on the social media account of an MP.

"An investigation was carried out and all the evidence available was collated and assessed as part of this process.

"A man was arrested and accepted a police caution.

"The MP was informed of the outcome. The Met continues to work closely with the Parliamentary authorities, local forces and the Home Office in ensuring that the appropriate security measures are in place for all MPs so they can go about their work safely."

Lee pointed to a recent case involving Labour minister Ed Miliband where a man was jailed for physically threatening to kill him on a street in Doncaster.

Michael Donaldson, 56, approached the Doncaster North MP and his staff members in Bentley on March 22 this year whilst appearing intoxicated.

The incident left Miliband and his team feeling intimidated and "shaken", Sheffield Crown Court heard.

Donaldson, of Askern Road, Bentley, pleaded guilty to making threats to kill and was sentenced at Sheffield Crown Court.

The court also imposed a restraining order preventing Donaldson from attending Mr Miliband's constituency office.

Donaldson threatened to "slit the throat" of the MP during the confrontation, and later while in custody was heard saying "Ed Miliband.... He will be in a body bag when I see him next."

The perpetrator initially tried to dismiss his threats as a "joke" when arrested.
