Labour suspends councillor after ‘Final Solution’ Israel outburst

The Labour Party has suspended a councillor in Wales after this broadcaster exposed him describing Israeli security policy in Gaza as a “final solution.”
Cllr. Miqdad Al-Nuaimi, who has represented Labour on Newport City Council since 2000, last night tweeted: “A Final Solution for the Gazans, 2million people, Genocidal annihilation.”
His comments came as Israel started to respond to an onslaught by Hamas terrorist gunmen, who breached the southern border and began executing and kidnapping civilians.
Al-Nuaimi's comments have attracted controversy as the Nazis referred to their planned extermination of Jews during the Second World War as the “Final Solution to the Jewish Question.”
The International Holocaust Remembrance Alliance’s definition of antisemitism, which Labour adopted in full in 2018, includes drawing comparisons of contemporary Israeli policy to that of the Nazis.
Al-Nuaimi, who is a council appointed governor at a primary school in Newport, has previously referred to the Israeli government as conducting a “Final Solution” in Gaza.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS
He first used the phrase on X, formerly known as Twitter, in 2012.
In 2014, the Labour politician said that Israel was forcing Gazans to flee into “the subterranean tunnels so that the maximum number can be incinerated in the shortest time. #FinalSolution achieved!”
Last month, Al-Nuaimi criticised the IHRA definition of antisemitism that he has breached: “There is only one purpose for the IHRA definition and that’s to help #ApartheidIsrael in conflating Israel’s criticism with A/S [antisemitism].
He added: “It’s to help the #Zionists to smear those who oppose the bill occupation of #Palestinian lands their theft and the removal of the indigenous people.”
GB News understands that the councillor has been administratively suspended from membership of the Labour Party, pending investigation.
This also has the automatic effect of suspending the Labour whip on the council.
Al-Nuaimi did not respond to a request for comment.
