'Nothing short of disgraceful!' Labour MP 'appalled' after gang of yobs destroy food bank donations meant for vulnerable people

The items, which had been donated for vulnerable community members, were thrown across the floor and kicked about until they were unusable.

A spokesman for Hyndburn neighbourhood police described the behaviour as showing "total disrespect and disregard" towards both vulnerable residents and donors.

The incident is part of a series of disturbances across Hyndburn, including assaults, criminal damage, and both verbal and physical abuse directed at shop staff and members of the public.

Officers immediately responded to the scene when alerted to the disturbance, confronting the group at the Eagle Street location.

Hyndburn and Haslingden MP Sarah Smith expressed her outrage at the destruction of items intended for vulnerable community members from a store on Eagle Street in Accrington.

"Antisocial behaviour has been a priority for me since day one, and I'm working closely with the police to address it," Smith told GB News.

"In the coming weeks, I'll be joining patrols to witness the challenges firsthand. This kind of behaviour must not be allowed to continue.

"For far too long, so-called low-level crime has been ignored or dismissed, but I'm pleased to see the Home Secretary taking decisive action with increased fines and more police officers on the streets.

"These measures are already being implemented here in Accrington, and I'm confident they will make a real difference."

Police have identified that some of the girls involved in the incident are from the Clayton area of Accrington.

Efforts are currently underway to identify all members of the group responsible for the vandalism.

"Some parents may not be aware it's their child so we are asking them to double check and take them home if they are a part of this group," a police spokesman said.

The force told GB News that appropriate action will be taken once the perpetrators are identified and that their investigation was still underway.

Local police confirmed they are working with partner agencies to address the ongoing antisocial behaviour issues in the area.

"We as Police are working with partner agencies and are currently looking at the appropriate actions to tackle the ongoing problem," the Hyndburn neighbourhood police spokesman said.

Smith continued by emphasising that parental responsibility is crucial in addressing these issues adding that "the Government can only do so much".

"Parents must also step up and take responsibility for their children's actions," she said.

"While there are many complex factors behind youth offending, the role of parents is crucial."

"Together, with stronger enforcement and community support, we can turn the tide on this unacceptable behaviour."
