The judge said it was 'not appropriate or suitable' to put a man in a wheelchair in restraints

GB News host Andrew Pierce has torn into the latest case of an accused murderer denying to appear in court, ahead of the sentencing of crossbow killer Kyle Clifford.

Clifford, 26, will be sentenced today for the killings of Louise Hunt, Hannah Hunt and their mother Carol after attacking them with a crossbow and 10-inch butcher's knife in July last year.

However, Justice Bennathan received an inquiry from Belmarsh Prison "as to whether I would order restraints so he (Kyle Clifford) should be brought to the video room".

Speaking to Cambridge Crown Court, Judge Bennathan said he "declined on the basis that the idea of a man in a wheelchair being put in restraints and potentially disrupting these proceedings is simply not appropriate or suitable".

Discussing Clifford's refusal to appear in court, Britain's Newsroom host Andrew Pierce highlighted exactly why the Government needs to make the legislative change to ensure criminals face their sentencings in court.

Andrew fumed: "Can I just remind people, this Government said they were going to put a stop to this, and that people who are guilty of a major crime will have to be in court for the sentencing.

"Because often the families of the victims read out a victim impact statement, and they should be there for it and they should be there to face it."

Hitting out at the current system, Andrew added: "And so here we go again - some disgusting low life murderer is able to cock a snook at the justice system and cower in his cell. It's an outrage."

Co-host Bev Turner agreed with Andrew, saying it is "awful" that Clifford has been allowed to avoid facing sentencing.

Judge Bennathan said: "If the defendant lacks the courage to face today, so be it – but I’m conscious part of this morning will be people paying tribute to the three women who died, and I’m not having that disrupted by anything."

Clifford was also found guilty last week of raping ex-girlfriend Louise Hunt during the triple murder attack.

The jury at Cambridge Crown Court delivered their verdict after hearing evidence about the attack at the Hunt family home in Bushey, Hertfordshire.

The court heard Clifford committed the rape as an "act of spite" after Louise had broken up with him less than two weeks earlier.

Clifford claimed the DNA evidence found on Louise's body was from a "consensual sexual encounter" 16 days before the crossbow attack.

However, prosecutors argued this explanation was "completely untenable", and the jury rejected his defence after considering the evidence presented during the trial.

Judge Bennathan has said Clifford's crimes committed against the Hunt family were "dreadful" and "almost unspeakable".
