Frazer Higgins was asked to pull over when officers suspected that he was driving a flatbed van unlawfully

A police officer was forced to jump from his bike after a dangerous driver deliberately rammed into him during a dramatic high-speed pursuit.

Officers asked Frazer Higgins, 31, to stop on the M2 in September last year after they suspected he was driving a flatbed van unlawfully.

Despite the officer signalling for the 31-year-old to halt, Higgins fled, with a chase quickly ensuing.

During the pursuit, Higgins reversed and rammed his van at speed into a police motorbike.

Kent Police said the officer was forced to jump off the vehicle for his own safety.

While speeding down the road in Faversham, Higgins also swerved his van into a police vehicle, causing significant damage.

He later abandoned his vehicle near a residential property and fled the scene.

Another chase, this time on foot, occurred with officers detaining Higgins. He was later arrested and then charged.

Detective Constable, Ellis Langford, said: “Higgins should not even have been behind the wheel that day and his deplorable conduct whilst driving could have had devastating consequences.

“I am pleased that he has been given a custodial sentence.

“I would like to thank the members of the public who stopped to offer assistance to the police officer forced from his bike that day, and also pay special regard to the witnesses who helped secure Higgins’ conviction and remove a dangerous driver from Kent’s roads.”

He was jailed for two and a half years on January 22 at Canterbury Court after pleading guilty to dangerous driving and other driving offences.

The 31-year-old will also face a driving ban upon his release from prison.
