Former Conservative MP Michael Brown argued that Sir Keir Starmer 'has not solved and is never going to solve the problem' with his current approach

Former Conservative MP Michael Brown has launched a scathing critique of Sir Keir Starmer's immigration policy, claiming the Prime Minister "looks completely stupid" on the issue.

Speaking to GB News, Brown argued that Starmer "has not solved and is never going to solve the problem" with his current approach.

Brown, who joined the Brexit Party after being a Tory MP from 1979 to 1997, said: "The blunt truth is Keir Starmer has not solved and is never going to solve the problem if he pursues the particular policy that he is at the moment.

"He ironically is now on the wrong side of the EU. So he looks completely stupid.

"I always said on day one of the new Labour government under Keir Starmer, I don't know why, they just don't put a sign on the white cliffs of Dover saying everybody is welcome.

"Now there's a Labour government. We've seen what's been happening since the July 4 with the numbers of illegals coming in.

He added: "There is a case for saying, look, why don't we, uh, advance the opportunities for them to work legally? Because what we don't what we don't know is how much illegal workings and slavers are going on.

"I mean, I don't want that. Or the alternative is to do what Maloney does, and that is to get boats to ensure that they don't set foot on their land in the first."

Brown's comments come as Italy implements a controversial new migrant processing deal with Albania, highlighting divergent approaches to immigration across Europe.

Italy's new migrant processing deal with Albania already saw the first group of 16 migrants arrive at the Albanian port of Shengjin on Wednesday.

The controversial scheme, hailed by Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni as "courageous" and "unprecedented", involves processing asylum seekers in facilities operated under Italian law on Albanian soil.

The initial group comprises 10 Bangladeshis and six Egyptians who were intercepted at sea after departing from Libya.

They will be processed in Shengjin before being transferred to accommodation in Gjader. Italy aims to deter irregular arrivals through this initiative, which allows for up to 3,000 migrants to be present in Albania at any given time.

The plan has drawn criticism from human rights groups, who question whether adequate protections will be in place for asylum seekers outside EU jurisdiction.

The Italian approach stands in stark contrast to Starmer's current immigration policy.

While Italy takes proactive steps to process migrants offshore, Labour's stance appears less defined.

Brown highlighted the increase in illegal arrivals since July, implying Labour's policies would exacerbate the situation.

He also pointed to Italy's strategy as a potential solution, proposing that the UK could "get boats to ensure that they don't set foot on their land in the first place".
