The protest group continue to inflict misery on the British public

A Just Stop Oil activist has sought to justify her actions by opening up on her grandson’s fish woes.

The grandmother, who had just been arrested during a demonstration in London, said in a video put out by the group of eco-zealots that she had only joined in as a result of her grandson’s fishes dying.

The group have not relented in their attempts to inflict misery on ordinary folk across Britain by holding up traffic and disrupting sporting events.

They argue that their actions are designed to force the Government into action on the climate crisis, with the specific aim of scrapping all new oil projects.

The individual in question appeared to have her own motives for taking part, mainly surrounding the wellbeing of her grandson’s fish.

Speaking in a video uploaded to Just Stop Oil’s Twitter page, she did not make the circumstances of her arrest fully clear.

“I went onto the road and was arrested straight away. Without any warning. Constable Wilson arrested me as I got halfway into the road,” she said.

“I’ver got my grandson coming tonight, he is staying for the next two nights. He told me when I saw him last week, ‘grandma, the fish in the pond are dying because it is too hot for them, and they can’t breathe’.

“I’m doing this for him, now I’ve been illegally arrested and I don’t know what I’m going to do.”

The arrest took place during a demonstration by the group in central London, close to the Winston Churchill statue in Parliament Square.

Just Stop Oil have ramped up their efforts to wreak havoc across Britain, appearing at sporting events like Wimbledon, The Open and the Premiership rugby final at Twickenham.

Yesterday, a protester from the group accused of filling 12 fire extinguishers with paint to cause criminal damage appeared in court.

Oliver Rock, 42, allegedly kept the extinguishers in his garage along with other equipment used to “lock on” – an illegal practice which makes it difficult for police to remove protesters.

Rock, of Southwark, inner London, appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court after his arrest on Thursday.

He pleaded not guilty to having articles with intent to cause criminal damage and being equipped to lock on.

Prosecutor Michael Mallon told the court that several items associated with Just Stop Oil were found in Rock’s garage and that he was “clearly” a part of the environmental campaign group.

On Friday, when Rock’s planned court appearance was delayed, dozens of protesters gathered outside holding signs reading, “solidarity with Ollie” and “we won’t die quietly”, attracting a heavy police presence.

He was release on unconditional bail and will appear at Wood Green Crown Court in August.
