The Canadian author likened the Prime Minister to Justin Trudeau

Jordan Peterson has told GB News that Sir Keir Starmer's pursuit of net zero is "complete insanity".

Speaking at the Alliance for Responsible Citizenship (ARC) in east London, the bestselling author and psychologist said that both Starmer and outgoing Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau are "possessed by the same set of pathological ideas".

The 62-year-old told GB News: "I don't know as much about Starmer as I do about Trudeau.

"They're both possessed by the same set of pathological ideas, including this pursuit of net zero which is complete insanity.

"Every single bit of this preposterous pursuit is a lie.

"It's the worst kind of virtue signalling lie that elevates your own moral status as saviour of the planet without requiring a true sacrifice on your part."

He continued: "Ideationally, [Starmer and Trudeau] are very similar and it's partly why there's been a strange union of the West in the last decade.

"Exactly the same problematic situation confronts every Western country and every country in the world. The problems persist in the UK and Canada."

Peterson founded Arc in 2023 alongside Tory peer Philippa Stroud.

This year's speakers included Conservative leader Kemi Badenoch, who said she was speaking up for "classic liberal values", and also criticised “loopholes” in liberalism which have been "hacked" in recent decades.

It comes after Deputy Reform UK leader Richard Tice told a press conference in London that Reform would propose "probably a generation tax” and a "special corporation tax rate" in order to "recover" the money paid in subsidies to renewable generators.

The Boston and Skegness MP told the press conference that net-zero policies were to blame for the deindustrialisation of Britain, he added: "This is the best way that we can help get the bills down and lower the cost of living.

"The British people need to know there is a direct link between the cost of all these subsidies to the vested interests in the renewables industry and your bills, your cost of living.

"So we will impose a windfall tax, whether it’s wind, whether it’s solar, whether it’s Drax power station, which is another massive con and rip-off."
