A passenger has tragically died on board a Jet2 flight from Bulgaria to Liverpool, forcing the plane to make an emergency landing in Germany.

The incident occurred on Monday, September 16 when flight LS3214 departed from Burgas at approximately 1pm local time (12pm BST).

Around two hours into the journey, the crew declared an emergency due to a passenger requiring urgent medical assistance.

The Boeing 737-800 was subsequently diverted to Cologne Bonn Airport, where it landed after a rapid descent.

Upon landing in Cologne, the aircraft was parked in a remote area of the airport, where a medical team rushed to the scene. The flight's return to the UK was subsequently delayed until later that evening.

Despite the best efforts of passengers and crew on board, the man, who reportedly suffered a cardiac arrest, could not be saved.

Online flight tracking data confirmed the diversion, with the plane touching down on runway 8 at Cologne around 3.32pm (2:.2pm BST).

After several hours at the airport, the aircraft finally resumed its journey to Liverpool at 9.17pm BST, arriving in the UK at 10.27pm.
