The hunt for the missing teenager came to an end over the weekend

Spanish police have switched their focus in the investigation to find the missing Jay Slater as it has been reported that forensics have probed the Airbnb where the missing teen stayed.

Jay Slater has been missing for more than two weeks after he attended a music festival in Tenerife and subsequently disappeared.

The missing 19-year-old attended the event with a friend but left with two men and went to stay at their Airbnb.

He was last heard of when he called his friend Lucy Law and said that he had missed the bus and attempted to walk home, a journey that would take 11 hours on foot.

Speaking to GB News, a global reporter for the Daily Mail Nick Pisa said: "As of yesterday, we managed to identify one of the people that Jay Slater stayed with at that Airbnb.

"A guy called Ayub Qassim who my colleague went to speak with last night. He said that there was nothing sinister or untoward that happened.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

"We should stress that the police have deemed this gentleman and another who hasn't yet been identified as irrelevant to the case.

"But he told my colleague that Jay Slater arrived at the house alive and he left the house alive. I can tell you, the other day when I went there, the police were back at that house.

"They left it as just as I arrived, and they were taking forensic-style dust covers off their shoes. And I approached the police officer and I asked him if he could tell me what he'd been doing and whether it was connected to the investigation.

"He said it was, but he couldn't tell me anything else because it was covered by judicial secrecy."

Qassim told The Mail he had let the 19-year-old stay at his because he "had nowhere else to go" and claimed all his friends "had left him".

He claimed he knew Jay through friends and said he wouldn't have brought him back to his rented cottage if he didn't know him and said he was doing Jay a "favour".

He said: "If I'd fallen out with him would he even come to mine? There were no problems.

"You've seen the last images of him with his red blanket around him.

"I don't know if he had beef elsewhere because I don't know him that well, I only know him through friends.

"I'm doing the geezer a favour and now my face is all over the news. It's a bit mental. I haven't even done anything."
