A quiet village in Ireland has been left reeling after a series of devastating cat poisonings over the Christmas period, with one pet dead and three others narrowly escaping with their lives following emergency veterinary treatment.

The incidents, which occurred in the Fair Green area of Ballintra, Co Donegal have prompted local animal charity Animals in Need Donegal to issue an urgent appeal to residents.

The poisonings have caused severe distress in the community, with affected cats displaying harrowing symptoms including frothing at the mouth and unstable walking before collapsing.

Veterinary intervention managed to save three of the poisoned cats, but tragically one beloved pet could not be saved despite treatment.
