Four teenage migrants have been sentenced to 15 months in juvenile detention for the gang rape of a homeless woman in the Netherlands.
The attackers, who were between the ages of 16 and 18, were found guilty of the brutal assault which took place in a park in the southern city of Helmond in December 2023.
The Den Bosch court ruled that the perpetrators, described as "unaccompanied foreign minors", needed guidance on how to function in Dutch society, resulting in lighter sentences than the two years demanded by prosecutors.
The 33-year-old victim was sitting alone on a bench when she was surrounded by the group and dragged into a grassy field in Burgemeester Geukerspark.

The attackers then pushed her to the ground and subjected her to a vicious assault, during which she was beaten and raped.
The perpetrators also stole the woman's mobile phone during the attack.
Police later found the victim partially naked, with visible injuries including a swollen nose and jaw.
In its judgement, the court acknowledged that such an act "evokes feelings of disgust and indignation in society and in particular feelings of insecurity among women".
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:
The verdict took into account what the court described as a "lack of supervision and guidance" offered to the perpetrators.
Three months of the sentences are conditional, which the judge indicated were intended to deter the teenagers from reoffending.
The group was ordered to jointly pay damages of €15,000 to the victim.

GETTY
A fifth suspect was also found guilty in connection with the attack, who received a four-month juvenile detention sentence for assault.
The trial was conducted behind closed doors due to the ages of the perpetrators at the time of the offence.
The sentences include both custodial and conditional elements, with the latter designed to promote rehabilitation of offenders.
