Labour has so far resisted calls for a national inquiry
Watch the moment GB News star Michelle Dewberry tore into ex-Labour adviser Scarlett MccGwire during a frosty debate over grooming gangs.
Michelle accused MccGwire of “turning a blind eye” to the scandal which has being thrusted into the public eye after Labour confirmed it has no plans to launch a national inquiry.
“I can’t understand that you don’t want to read and understand what has happened to these girls”, Michelle said.
“You as an individual. You’re a paid current affairs commentator. This is one of the biggest stories that’s been dominating headlines internationally. Why wouldn’t you want to understand?”

MccGwire insisted she has read up on the topic but she finds talking about it “difficult” as she puts herself into the position of young girls who have been violently abused.
“It just makes me sick”, she admitted.

“You sat on her last week and we had this conversation. One of my panellists asked you specifically, ‘have you read the transcripts?’ And you said no. Fast forward a week and you still haven’t read them”, Michelle hit back.
“I can’t process. I cannot understand.”
MccGwire went about defending herself, telling Michelle: “I seriously cannot understand why finding out the absolute details of what happened to these poor, poor girls would make me feel any more strongly that something has got to happen.
“These girls were absolutely let down by everybody. By social workers, by councillors, by the police. It makes you feel sick.”

Michelle responded: “I’ll tell you what makes me feel sick, the fact that people still have not cottoned onto the absolute disgusting nature of what has happened to these people.
“I would bet every single penny that I have that this is still happening in towns and cities up and down the country today.
“It’s not acceptable for people in the media to say, ‘you know what? I’m going to turn a blind eye to this’.”
MccGwire strongly refuted the suggestion she was turning a blind eye to the matter, saying “I have done what I can to talk to people about inquiries”.
“I have not turned a blind eye”, she added. Michelle then said she “probably putting it on” MccGwire, one of the few points of agreement during the discussion.
“Yes, you are actually”, she responded. “Well I’m sick of it”, Michelle responded.
“I think, especially if you’re a paid current affairs commentator, you have to make sure that you understand the issues of which we’re discussing.
“I am getting sick and tired to broaden this out.”
Keir Starmer has refused calls for another investigation, following criticism from the Conservatives and Reform UK.
Downing Street maintains that experts and survivors believe a new inquiry could delay immediate action to address the problem.
