The climate activist was charged with a public order offence after staging a protest outside the Energy Intelligence Forum in London

Greta Thunberg has been spotted running away from crowds and photographers outside Westminster Magistrates Court, after appearing in the docks today.

The 20-year-old climate activist was charged with a public order offence by police last month, after breaching Section 14 of the Public Order Act 1986.

Thunberg was arrested by Metropolitan Police officers after joining climate demonstrators outside the Energy Intelligence Forum in central London.

The protestors gathered outside the InterContinental Hotel in Mayfair over the use of fossil fuels by major oil and gas companies by companies attending the Forum.

The protest was interrupted by police officers after the crowd were accused of failing to leave the highway and continuing their demonstration on the pavement.

Thunberg was then consequently arrested during the incident on October 17.

She was then bailed after being charged for one count of breaching the Public Order Act.

Thunberg today took to the stand alongside ten other activists, who were all charged with the same public order offence.

Thunberg pleaded not guilty to the offence in court. All the other activists who attended court also all pleaded not guilty.

If she is found guilty following the verdict, Thunberg could face a fine of up to £2,500.

Thunberg was seen running away from crowds outside the court, as she was surrounded by a crowd of people and cameras.

Assisted by what appeared to be other fellow climate activists, Thunberg made her getaway by running in the opposite direction to the crowd.

Greenpeace and Fossil Free London protesters also appeared outside the court, chanting and holding yellow banners reading "Oily Money Out".

The court appearance follows a clash with a climate activist in Amsterdam, after her microphone was snatched from her hands during an on-stage speech at a rally.

Thunberg was told by the heckler "I come here for a climate demonstration, not a political view", after airing her views on the ongoing conflict in the Middle East and calling for "international solidarity".

Thunberg and the other charged protesters were granted unconditional bail ahead of a trial at City of London Magistrates' Court, set to take place in February 2024.
