Grant Shapps pulls out of race to become Prime Minister to back Rishi Sunak

Transport Secretary Grant Shapps has backed former Chancellor Rishi Sunak to replace Boris Johnson.

In a tweet, Mr Shapps, who had been himself running for the Tory leadership, said: “uge thanks to my team for helping to pull together my leadership bid in literally no time!

“Amongst a field of brilliant candidates I’ve spoken to Rishi Sunak who I believe has the competence and experience to lead this country.”
