The viewer's comments come during the conversation about prisoner Liam Matthews who killed a man the same day he was released early under Labour's prison scheme.

Speaking at Patrick Christys live show, on GB News viewer said: "I speak for many, many people and we are just abhorred with this two tier justice system.

"We are the home of democracy. We set an example across the world. What does this set for us to the rest of the world, what we're doing?

"It doesn't matter the colour of your skin. Whatever. If you're guilty, you're guilty. There should be the same justice system across the board.

"This has been applied not just by Labour, but by the Conservatives. How can it be justified?"

Broadcaster Charlie Downes responded: "It's not surprising that if you release a criminal early, they go out and hurt somebody.

"I mean, it doesn't take a genius to figure out that that's going to be the outcome. But there are so many elements to these various stories that I think are important for us to unpick.

"The first is the fact that the Sentencing Council, seemingly like so many of these other kinds of quangos that have been set up in the last 30 years, have so much power that they are able to tell Parliament what to do.

"Now, historically, Parliament has been sovereign in this country, but clearly that isn't the case anymore. And until a political force in this country is prepared to address that fact, I think we're only going to see things get worse."

Matthews, 26, was freed from HMP Holme House in Stockton-on-Tees just hours before participating in a fatal attack.

Father-of-one Lewis Bell, 26, was hunted down "like prey" by Matthews and two accomplices over a drug dispute.

The court heard how Bell was chased down with weapons in the street in what was described as a "pre-planned, sustained attack".

He was released early as part of Labour's emergency measures to free up prison space amid a population boom.

Justice Secretary Shabana Mahmood\u200bJustice Secretary Shabana Mahmood has previously insisted: "There will never be a two-tier sentencing approach under my watch."PA

The controversy comes amid a separate row over new sentencing guidelines that critics claim could create different standards for offenders from ethnic minority backgrounds.

The Justice Secretary made it clear she would not accept the Council's decision without further action.

"I am extremely disappointed by the Council's response. All options are on the table and I will legislate if necessary," Shabana Mahmood stated.
