The ex-MP locked horns with journalist Zoë Grünewald

A tense row about England’s school curriculum broke out on GB News this evening, with former Tory MP Ranil Jayawardena claiming autistic girls are “being encouraged to change gender”.

Speaking on GB News, the ex-MP locked horns with journalist Zoë Grünewald about what children are being taught in school with particular regard to sex education.

But the journalist was sceptical about some of the claims put forward by her debating partner.

“Do you think it is right that autistic girls in particular are being encouraged in schools they should change their gender? I don’t think that is right”, Jayawardena said.

Grünewald hit back: “I don’t think that is happening.”

She added: “I think that is really pushing it. I don’t think that should stop children from having access to information which keeps them safe.

“We know that child sexual abuse is a horrible fact to confront in this country. It occurs mostly in the home and mostly from relatives and people known to them.”

The former MP countered: “The trouble is, you either go all or nothing with this. You can’t pick and choose.

“Children are being taught things I personally believe parents should have the right to opt out from.”

GB News host Bev Turner waded in on the discussion to say children are now keen to learn more about the biological side of sex, rather than context surrounding relationships.

“Maybe they are sick about gender ideology”, Bev said.

“There is a lot of eye-rolling. I think a lot of children are sick about the relationship we have with gender at the moment.”

Grünewald commented: “I think if we want to keep children safe, it’s absolutely vital.

“We always hear horrible cases about child sexual abuse in this country, it really is an epidemic.

“We need something like this in place for children to be empowered to evoke their boundaries.”
