There was limited sympathy from protesters

Protesters flying dozens of red, green, white and black flags gathered just outside the secure zone of Labour conference in Liverpool yesterday as they demanded: "Free Palestine."

Activists gathered to mourn the deaths of hundreds in Gaza killed in after Israel retaliated to an attack by terror group Hamas over the weekend.

One lady at the protest was close to tears, telling GB News her mother and sister were in Israel and she was terrified for their safety.

However, there was limited sympathy from protesters.

WATCH: Fears for Israel after violence outbreak

"This is not right to be doing this", raged one man speaking for Israelis.

"Our people are being buried: families, young children murdered in cold blood.
"Anyone want to stand with me? Or am I on my own again? Typical. We’re always on our own."

A man born in Palestine participating in the protest told GB News: "It’s terrible. I don’t condone violence, but I can understand it.

"Israelis can’t say 'we don’t like people being killed'…what do they think of all the Palestinians who’ve been killed? They’ve dropped bombs on high-rise buildings and wiped out the whole lot."

The Labour leadership has sought to take a firm stance on the Israel-Hamas conflict, criticising the actions of the latter.

Shadow Foreign Secretary David Lammy stressed at a fringe event: "Hamas is a proscribed terrorist organisation."

He added that the group was seeking to undermine progress towards a two-state solution.

In his speech today, Starmer received a standing ovation as he condemned the “senseless” killings unleashed by Hamas “terrorists”.

“I utterly condemn the senseless murder of men, women and children – including British citizens – in cold blood by the terrorists of Hamas,” he said.

“This party believes in the two-state solution – a Palestinian state alongside a safe and secure Israel.

“But this action by Hamas does nothing for Palestinians and Israel must always have the right to defend her people.
