'Different menus for different communities. Chain restaurants in Balkanised Britain,' one critic said

A Five Guys restaurant in Birmingham has sparked uproar after dropping alcohol and pork products from its menu in a bid to become "halal certified".

A branch of the popular fast food chain near Fort Dunlop, in the city's northwest, has joined five other outlets across the country in ditching the "haram" items.

It has now started using halal beef - and has axed bacon, hot dogs and alcohol from its menu.

A statement from Five Guys reads: "Our burgers use halal-certified British beef that is prepared following specific practices, as required to become halal certified, whilst maintaining humane and ethical standards without compromising on animal welfare according to UK and EU legislation.

"In order for the stores to be fully halal certified we will not offer bacon, hot dogs or alcohol at these stores.

"In future, we may look to introduce a halal-certified hot dog."

But critics have warned that the move risks embedding "Islamic enclaves" across the UK which "live apart from the host population".

Political writer Connor Tomlinson said on social media: "This accommodation of halal dietary requirements is not innocuous."

He also warned that such moves would only worsen by "importing indigestible tribal cultures from Muslim countries".

"We should not be complacent about these incremental incursions on British cultural norms by a foreign imperial belief system," Tomlinson added.

Meanwhile, the Adam Smith Institute think tank's Sam Bidwell said: "A Five Guys in Birmingham has removed bacon and alcohol from its menu.

"Why are people surprised? In some neighbourhoods near the shop, the population is 75 per cent plus Muslim.

And trade unionist Paul Embery added: "Another example of 'asymmetrical multiculturalism'.

"Every culture must be indulged and celebrated - except the indigenous one. Small things like this may seem irrelevant. But they build and build and eventually result in a pushback.

"National populism is rising for a reason."
