Nick warned the tax reforms threaten family businesses like his own

A frustrated farmer has called for MPs to be "booted out" and for the "country to be run like a business" amid protests over inheritance tax changes.

Speaking to GB News from today's London demonstrations, farmer Nick warned the tax reforms threaten family businesses like his own.

He explained on GB News: "I'm here because I don't agree with the inheritance tax laws. I think it's a pretty mean thing to do.

"They tax you every way they can, then they wait for you to die and hit you with the biggest tax of all.

"So it's the element of it being once someone passes away that really gets to you. I think it's also the fact that if I've got a business involved where I need an awful lot of kit, I've got 300 tanks and 100 acre farm.

"It probably won't slot into this inheritance taxing at the moment, but it will. They'll they'll chisel away the thin end of the wedge.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS

"When my son goes to take over, if he's got to pay 40 per cent inheritance tax, then, well, that's the end of the business."

He added: "Stop wasting our money. Stop giving it away. Run the run the country like a business.

Emily said: "What would you ask from MPs?"

"What would I ask? Christ, I'd rather not say. Probably I'd be shot because there's no freedom of speech in this country anymore."

Nick explained: "The first thing I would do is ask every single member of Parliament, have you been in business successfully for 20 years? If they haven't, I would boot them out the door."

Farmer protests

Thousands of farmers are descending on Westminster today

GETTY

Thousands of farmers are descending on Westminster today to protest against Labour's inheritance tax changes.

Labour's plans would impose a 20 per cent inheritance tax on farms worth more than £1 million, with some estates valued under £3 million receiving allowances.

The changes, announced in Rachel Reeves's Budget, are due to come into force in April 2026.

The reforms will scrap an existing exemption that meant no inheritance tax was paid to pass down family farms.

Farmers have warned this threatens the nation's food security as many would have to sell land to afford the tax bill.

Liz Webster, founder of Save British Farming, accused Reeves of ensuring that the UK is "marching into a food crisis."

The protest coincides with MPs debating an e-petition that has gathered more than 148,000 signatures.

The petition calls for maintaining current inheritance tax exemptions for working farms.
