The major outage is affecting Meta users globally

Thousands of Facebook, WhatsApp and Instagram users have reported issues using their Meta-owned apps, according to outage-tracking website Downdetector.com.

More than 15,000 users in total said they were having trouble accessing the Meta Platforms.

According to Downdetector - which tracks outages by collecting status reports from a number of sources including user-submitted errors on its platform - all of the Meta-owned platforms reported a spike at the same time.

Instagram users say they were struggling to send messages, while those on WhatsApp complained they could not load photos.

Facebook users said that the website was only showing the logos and not fully loading.

Reports of issues spiked at around 7.30pm this evening.

Meta Platforms said it was aware of issues with its Ads Manager, its advertising tool that lets brands buy and create Facebook ads.

A spokesperson said: "We're aware that some people are having trouble accessing our products. We're working to get things back to normal as quickly as possible, and we apologise for any inconvenience."
