The Three Lions have the chance to end 58-years of hurt tonight against La Roja
England fans have been filmed making a jibe at Gibraltar ahead of tonight’s clash against Spain.
Supporters of the Three Lions are settling in ahead of a nail-biting match to decide who wins the 2024 European Championships in Berlin.
A video circulating on social media appeared to show England fans making reference to the Rock.
“Gibraltar is ours, Gibraltar is ours, f**k off you Spaniards, Gibraltar is ours,” fans shouted.
The sovereignty of Gibraltar has been a topic of debate between London and Madrid for decades.
The British Overseas Territory was captured by Madrid during the War of the Spanish Succession.
However, the Rock was ceded to the British Crown under the Treaty of Utrecht in 1713.
Spain attempted to retake Gibraltar throughout the 18th century and strived further to reclaim the Rock under the dictatorial regime of Francisco Franco.
LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:Gibraltarians emphatically rejected the proposal of shared sovereignty between the UK and Spain in 2002.
Almost 99 per cent of the electorate voted against the move, with just one per cent supporting shared sovereignty.
Negotiations on how to deal with Gibraltar's post-Brexit border dispute remains unresolved.
A joint statement said: “Today’s discussions took place in a constructive atmosphere, with important breakthroughs and additional areas of agreement.
"All sides are reassured that the agreement is getting closer and will work closely and rapidly on outstanding areas towards an overall EU-UK agreement."
Football fans have also joked about the tourist hotspot Benidorm being up for grabs.
The Alicante resort is already being descended on by hundreds of England supporters and has been a fan favourite for many Britons during the summer holidays.
Around 70,000 pints of beer will be drunk at the popular resort throughout today.
However, amid growing concerns from local residents, a ban on drinking in glass bottles will come into force from 6pm.
Local police will also increase its presence in Benidorm on match day.
Road closures have been planned and drones look set to be used to quell potential trouble.
Benidorm Mayor Toni Perez said: “This will be a day of celebration for the two groups of fans, where a playful and festive atmosphere reigns of quiet and good coexistence between Spaniards and the English.”
Benidorm Council added: “The monitoring of security and any incidents that might occur will be carried out from the Coordination Centre which will be located at the Benidorm Local Police Headquarters, where there will be local and national agents working together."
