As the French Election continues to be too close to call, Emmanuel Macron has released a series of informal photographs in a bid to garner support from younger voters.

Six days ahead of the presidential vote, Mr Macron’s personal photographer posted some behind the scenes photographs of the French President on social media.

In one candid photo, Mr Macron can be seen lounging on a yellow sofa with his shirt half unbuttoned, revealing a wealth of chest hair.

An Ipsos-Sopra Steria survey yesterday showed Mr Macron has slightly extended his lead, but only marginally.

It put Mr Macron’s support at 55.5 percent, with Le Pen on 44.5 percent. The margin of error was put at up to 2.4 points.

It comes after Mr Macron stepped his campaign and slammed his rival at a rally in Marseilles yesterday.

He said: "The far right represents a danger for our country. Don’t heckle them. Beat them."

It comes as Marine Le Pen has pledged to hold a referendum on reinstating the death penalty if she was elected French president as she vows to "let the people speak" on issues that matter to them.

The National Rally candidate said: “I want the referendum to become a classic operating tool."

She refused to rule out a vote on capital punishment, as “there is no forbidden debate in a great, mature democracy," adding: “Letting the people speak isn’t dangerous, what is dangerous is not letting them.”

GB News presenter Nigel Farage said "it's all to play for" and that everything will hinge on the head-to-head debate of the two candidates taking place on 20 April.
