Police said a woman in her 30s reported that she had been raped in the early hours
Police responded last night to a mob of angry residents outside a convenience store in Doncaster where a woman alleged that she had been raped.
Three men were released on bail after being arrested on suspicion of rape at a shop on Marshland Road in Moorends, Doncaster, South Yorkshire Police said.
Police added the men, aged 49, 24 and 34, were also arrested on suspicion of false imprisonment.
Cops said that a woman in her 30s reported that she had been raped in the early hours of Friday and that she was taken to hospital to be “checked over.”
She has received further support from the force and its specialist partners.
But police returned to the area two days later after reports of disorder outside the convenience store where the alleged incident took place.
The force said its priority now is to maintain public safety. It advised people to avoid the area.
Detective Superintendent Eleanor Welsh said: “Our investigation into this incident remains ongoing and we have detectives working tirelessly to establish the facts of what happened in the early hours of Friday morning.
“Since the incident, there has been speculation and some misinformation shared online. This is an active and sensitive investigation and therefore I encourage the public to avoid speculation about the incident as our enquiries continue.
“Please also remember that victims of sexual offences have lifelong anonymity under the Sexual Offences Act.
"If you identify a victim, or post information that could lead to the identification of a victim, you are breaking the law.
"We are monitoring the information being shared online and will investigate any information being shared which could risk the victim being identified.”
