Dominic Cummings has called Boris Johnson a 'babbling f***wit' in a rare interview.
The former No10 chief accused the Prime Minister of seeing himself as a "king" or "Roman emperor", saying that he only cared about grand infrastructure projects that would act as monuments to himself.
Mr Cummings also said that Boris Johnson has not "got the balls" to stand up to his "forceful" wife Carrie.
He criticised the Tory leader for "babbling" to the media and said that his wife Carrie Johnson had been running a "disastrous" shadow briefing regime.
The comments come from Cummings' interview with New York magazine, as Mr Johnson is set to address the House of Commons on top civil servant Sue Gray's report on 'partygate' allegations.
He told the magazine that the campaign against Mr Johnson as Tory leader was "an unpleasant but necessary job".
"It's like sort of fixing the drains", he said.
The ex-adviser said Mr Johnson said: "What's the point of him and Carrie just rattling around in there and f***ing everything up for everyone and not doing the job properly?".
Downing Street has declined to comment.
