A man has been arrested for the attempted murder of a dog walker after a woman walking her pet was found unconscious.

Anita Rose, 57 was found lying on a railway track in Brantham, Suffolk at about 6.30am on Wednesday by a member of the public.


Emergency services were quickly called and the 57-year-old was taken to hospital, where she remains in a critical condition after having sustained a serious head injury.

Rose had taken her springer spaniel dog named Bruce for a walk at around 5.00am. When a member of the public stumbled across her lying on a track road near Rectory Lane, Bruce remained by her side. The dog is said to be safe and unharmed.

Suffolk Police have now arrested a 45-year-old man from the Ipswich area on suspicion of attempted murder.

He was taken into custody at the Martlesham Police Investigation Centre and is currently under question.

It is not believed that the suspect is known to the victim at this time.

Detective Superintendent Mike Brown said: “We are still looking to establish the exact circumstances leading to the incident, but our initial enquiries are underway, and these will continue over the weekend.

“We continue to be extremely grateful for the support the community and the media have given us so far. This assistance we receive is absolutely key.

“A presence of officers is likely to continue in the area for the next few days with reassurance patrols. These officers are available to speak to concerned members of the community. These officers will also be conducting house to house enquiries, searching through CCTV footage and continuing on-going forensic work.

“This is a fast-moving investigation, and we are appealing to the local community for any further information which may aid this investigation.”

Police have shared a new CCTV image of Rose, wearing a bright pink coat, just moments before her attack.

Officers are trying to locate the colourful jacket and her mobile phone, both of which are missing.

Rose’s family are being supported by specially trained officers, the force said.
