Four people were taken to hospital for injuries after the Tyneside attack
Two ‘American Bully’ dogs were shot dead by the police after they attacked four people in a sleepy village in Tyneside.
A family member of the victims of the attack told GB News that the American Bully dogs mauled a 9-year-old boy and his father before turning their violent attention to their two owners.
Locals aware of the incident said that the dogs belonged to the controversial American Bully XL breed, but GB News understands that there has been no official confirmation.
The attack comes after polling seen exclusively by this broadcaster showed that the public overwhelmingly supports a ban on the dangerous breed, with 57 per cent in favour and only 17 per cent against.
There has been a 50 per cent increase in hospital admissions for dog bites over 10 years, with the biggest rise being attributed to children under four.
A Northumbria Police spokesperson said: “At around 12.20pm on Sunday, August 27, police received a report that two dogs had injured four people on Moorfield Gardens in Cleadon.
“Officers attended the scene and were able to contain the dogs indoors.
"A short time later – and in agreement with the owner – the dogs were destroyed to ensure the safety of the public.
“Two men, a woman and a boy were taken to hospital for treatment with injuries not described as life-changing.
“Enquiries into the incident are ongoing.”
