Darts champion labels competitor as a 'breath of fresh air'
Rob Cross says Luke Littler is a “breath of fresh air” for darts - as the pair prepare to face off in tonight’s blockbuster semi-final.
Speaking to GB News, Cross, who won the title in 2018, said: “Luke is a breath of fresh air. You know, he's incredible. Actually, I think it's brilliant what he's achieved in the game. And it's going to be a really tight one tonight. But I’m going to do my best tonight, and put my best foot forward."
Reflecting on his win six years ago he said: “I think for me in 2018 when I won it, it was a fairytale. Everyone loves an underdog story. And realistically, it's no different with him. You know, he's just a lot younger and it's incredible what he's doing at his age. He's so mature for his age and he's got a very bright future ahead of him.”
Cross’ match tonight comes after he sensationally fought back from 4-0 down in the Quarters to win 5-4.
He said: “As the game developed, I managed to get a set under my belt that settled me. The crowd were amazing. They picked me up yesterday when I needed it. They really helped me yesterday. But I'm pretty sure that I'm going to be not the crowd favourite tonight though!”
Littler, 16, has taken Alexandra Palace by storm this year and reached the quarter-final with a sensational win over former world champion Raymond van Barneveld.
Speaking after his Quarter Final win, Littler admitted that he's now dreaming of going all the way and winning the whole tournament.
He told Sky Sports: "Wow. I'm in the semi-final on my debut.
"I'm glad to get here. I've earned it and my performances have been good.
"I've thrown another 100+ average and my doubles are on 47 per cent, so it's gone well today as well."
He added: "If I keep it up, I've got a good chance. Now I am dreaming!
"I'm two games away. I'm definitely thinking about lifting the title."
