Tui, the tour operator for the holiday, expressed their condolences however said they could not comment further as a police investigation was active.

A fundraising page set up for the cost of his funeral by his family described the 20-year-old as “a young man full of personality, kindness and compassion with his whole life ahead of him”.

His uncle, Alex Price, said: “He had a stable girlfriend and they were thinking about moving in together.

“They were very settled. He was quite a mature young man for his age, very compassionate and kind, caring towards his family members and his younger siblings.”

His grandmother Collette Kerry, who is still in Turkey, said: “This is not a tragic accident and I just feel like nobody is listening to me. It's like they just want to sweep it under the carpet and get shut of us.

“The local police came on Friday but they haven't spoken to us since at all. Apparently they were here in the hotel earlier but they didn't come and speak to us.”

His body was found at the bottom of the shaft around 7am local time (4am GMT), following a search for the 20-year-old led by his brother.

Price said the family is anticipating the findings of a full investigation into the circumstances of his nephew's death.
