Five men have been arrested on suspicion of rape after a woman in her twenties reported being attacked at a property in Brighton.

The incident took place overnight at an address in Montpelier Place, with the victim contacting Sussex Police on Sunday morning.


The suspects, aged 38, 32, 32, 26 and 26, remain in police custody while investigations continue.

The woman is currently receiving support from specialist officers following the reported attack.

A spokeswoman for Sussex Police said: "Police in Brighton have arrested five men on suspicion of rape following a report received on Sunday morning (February 9)."

"At around 9.40am, a woman in her twenties reported having been raped overnight at a property in Montpelier Place, Brighton," the force spokesperson added.

The property where the alleged attack took place is located a few streets back from Brighton's seafront, approximately one mile from Brighton Pier.

"She is being supported by specialist officers and an investigation is now underway," the police spokeswoman confirmed.

The police spokeswoman added: "As part of those inquiries, five men – aged 38, 32, 32, 26 and 26 – have been arrested on suspicion of rape."

"They remain in custody at this time," she said.

The force confirmed that inquiries are ongoing to understand the full circumstances of the incident.

The suspects were still being held in police custody as of Sunday evening.

The same day, Sussex police arrested a 58-year-old man on suspicion of attempted murder following a suspected stabbing in East Sussex.

Authorities were called to Hazelwood Avenue in Eastbourne at about 1.25 pm, after reports of a 57-year-old man having sustained serious injuries.

Police confirmed the man had been rushed to hospital. His injuries were not believed to be lift threatening.
