The news that the pair were being fined were confirmed in a statement by No.10 on Tuesday.
The statement read: "The Prime Minister and Chancellor of the Exchequer have today received notification that the Metropolitan police intend to issue them with fixed penalty notices."
A later statement added: “The Met Police have now explained that the FPN issued to the PM will be in relation to the following incident.
“On 19th June 2020 at the Cabinet Room 10 Downing Street between 2pm and 3pm you participated in a gathering of two or more people indoors in the Cabinet Room at 10 Downing Street.”
While the likes of Labour Party leader Sir Keir Starmer and Scottish First Minister Nicola Sturgeon have called for Mr Johnson to resign, Tory MPs have urged the PM not to step down amid the ongoing Russian invasion of Ukraine.
