GB News' West Midlands reporter Jack Carson spoke to campaigner John Gilmore about the potholes at the cemetery

Mourners of loved ones who have been laid to rest at a cemetery in Birmingham have been left outraged at the neglect shown to the site by the council.

Yardley Crematorium and Cemetery has 90 potholes across the site, leading John Gilmore to start a campaign to have the site returned to its former glory.

He said: “It's heartbreaking really to see it like this when families and relatives come to pay their respects to their loved ones and this can be the closest place where they feel close to their their relatives.

“The last thing you want to have on your mind is ‘I’ve just gone over a pothole. Has that damaged my tire?’

“These places should be beautiful, lovely and not looking like derelict pieces of land.

Birmingham City Council confirmed that work to repair the road and upgrades to the crematorium will commence in the coming weeks.

A spokesperson said: “Essential work to replace an upgrade cremators at Yardley Crematorium is due to begin next month, so the site will be closed from the 27th of April for this work to be carried out.

“In addition, extensive road resurfacing will be carried out within the grounds of Yardley Crematorium to ensure we provide a safe and pleasant environment for all the users of the cemetery."
