Flying the rainbow flag is set to become an important part of work evaluations for senior Treasury civil servants, according to a source.
Senior officials are being urged to observe “key diversity milestones” by doing things like “celebrating Black History Month… and flying the rainbow flag for Pride.”
Civil servants are being urged to carry out the directives as part of the department’s diversity, inclusion and belonging action plan.
They are being evaluated on a criteria which includes sitting on diversity panels and meeting race, gender and sexuality targets.
A Whitehall source has hit out at the calls, telling the Telegraph: “We are going into one of the most difficult economic conditions the nation has faced in hundreds of years, and what are our supposed best and brightest doing?

“It’s beyond infuriating and until we stamp this nonsense out, people will rightly feel furious.”
A Treasury spokesman said: “The Civil Service recruits on merit and our aim is to ensure that we attract the widest possible range of talent, skills and experience.
“Our diversity and inclusion strategy sets out how we will achieve that aim.”
