A woman was surprised to receive a photo as proof that her Amazon parcel had been delivered - inside her full waste bin.

Pippa Casely from St Leonards, Sussex said she received a picture as evidence that her delivery had arrived.

However, when she checked, the order was placed inside a full wheelie bin which was due to be collected.

She now believes the package - containing a harness for her dog - likely ended up in landfill.

Following the error, Casely was able to receive a full refund.

She said: "Didn’t it occur to the delivery driver that a full bin on the road, where everyone else’s bin is also out, might mean that it is rubbish collection day?"

She added: "At least they put it in my bin and not my neighbour’s. Amazon are sending me a refund."

It follows a similar incident in Manchester when an Amazon customer was left "retching" when he found that his package was left in his food and garden waste disposal bin.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

The customer said the package was a gift for his partner.

He said the bin contained "a combination of rotting sausages and a cocktail of seven years' worth of meal scraps that had turned into slime.

"I can only describe it as a biowaste pit," he told Newsweek.

If a customer is not home, Amazon can leave the parcel in a "safe place".

However, some people have experienced packages being stolen.

According to data, parcel theft has risen by 57 per cent in the past year.

Statistics show that the average reported value of a stolen parcel is £66.50.
