Sloley had little money with him and no wallet, passport, belongings or spare clothes on his person when he vanished

The Metropolitan Police has offered a £10,000 reward for information about a teenager who disappeared from north London nearly 17 years ago.

Accountancy student Alexander Sloley was just 16 when he vanished in August 2008, two days before his birthday.

Despite extensive investigations spanning almost two decades, police have found no trace of the teenager.

His family and friends have not heard from him since he went missing from Islington, while his case remains an active missing person investigation.

Alexander had been visiting a friend's home in Edmonton, northeast London, before he disappeared, having left home around midday.

He had little money with him and no wallet or passport when he went missing.

Police noted he had no belongings or spare clothes that would suggest he planned to run away.

His phone, bank account and National Insurance number have not been used since his disappearance, and he has never been spotted on CCTV.

In 2012, a police officer told the Camden New Journal: "It's like he disappeared off the face of the planet."

In 2009, Alexander's case was one of the first to be publicised on nearly 13.5 million milk cartons at supermarket chain Iceland.

In 2017, a retired head of the Metropolitan Police's Central Images Unit suggested a possible connection between Alexander and missing 14-year-old Andrew Gosden.

However, detectives then said in 2019 there was no proof Alexander had been harmed and no evidence linking his case to any others.

When he went missing, Alexander was described as a light-skinned black male, 5ft 5ins tall with striking blue eyes.

LATEST FROM LONDON:

Detective Chief Inspector Sarb Kaur, who is leading the investigation, said: "We are now offering a reward of up to £10,000 for anyone who has information relating to Alex's whereabouts."

"This remains an active missing person investigation, subject to regular review by senior officers, with the aim of locating Alex and bringing some comfort to his family.

"We have recently met with Alex's mother to outline how we intend to progress our investigation to find him.

"I would ask anyone with information who could help to please get in contact immediately, no matter how insignificant you think this could be.

“You can contact us by calling or texting on 07860 369603. A dedicated incident room is staffed by experienced detectives who will handle all calls with the utmost confidentiality. If you prefer to remain anonymous, you can also share information through Crimestoppers.”
