Aldi will also open a number of stores nationwide over the course of 2023

Aldi is set to create more than 6,000 new jobs nationwide in a bold expansion plan that will see new stores open up in towns and cities across the UK.

The supermarket chain currently has 990 stores in the UK and it has pledged to build more.

Norwich, Huddersfield and Shrewsbury will all see Aldi stores popping up in their local areas later this year, some as soon as next month.

Aldi employs around 40,000 workers at current, taking its new total by the end of 2023 to 46,000.

Last year, it took over Morrisons and became the UK’s fourth largest supermarket chain.

It boasted that it had brought in 1.3 million new customers over the course of the last three months.

Aldi store assistants begin on a rate of £11 an hour and can rise to as much as £12.75.

Aldi also recently increased pay rates for around 7,000 warehouse staff, taking the minimum starting salary to £13.18 an hour.

Richard Thornton, the Communications Director at Aldi said it prioritised value and prides itself on paying its staff well.

The chief executive of Aldi UK, Giles Hurley, said: “Demand for Aldi has never been higher as more and more people realise they can make significant savings on every shop without compromising on quality.

“It’s more important than ever that we are making it even easier for more people to shop with us, including by opening dozens of new stores.

“Our success is dependent on the amazing work that colleagues do, day in and day out.
