Body found in search for British hiker last seen in Switzerland

Roche, an experienced hiker, was on a two-week solo camping trip in Switzerland.

The chemical engineer was due home within days when he went missing.

Roche’s family confirmed the body was found by police “near the trail” where the 29-year-old had been walking.

Family and friends last month released footage from his trip taken on the day he went missing in an effort to identify those he was with before he disappeared.

Brother Connor Roche, 32, said it had "hit us all hard" and thanked everyone "who helped us through all of this".

He added: "We received the news last week that the police in Switzerland had found Aidan near the trail he was walking.

"The news has hit us all hard, even with this outcome on our minds over the last few months.

"On behalf of my entire family, I want to say a massive thank you to everyone who helped us through all of this.

"The outpouring of support from so many people has got us through all of the uncertainty and anguish and shows just how loved Aidan was.

"For all the messages of support, the sharing of Aidan's pictures and posters online, and the donations to aid in finding him, you have our deepest gratitude.

"All of this helped to bring him home to us. Thank you so much."

Swiss police and the mountain rescue service ceased their search efforts earlier this year after they "exhausted every option" and had not received any new evidence.

The "extremely worried" family launched a GoFundMe campaign hoping that cash would help generate new leads in the search mission.

More than £30,000 was raised to help fund the search for Roche.
