A woman who made more than £300 in her first month on the online marketplace Vinted has shared her top tips for selling products online.
Influencer Chi-Chi Nwuba posted videos about her experience on her TikTok account @chisquared after the resale site contacted her to say she was a “top seller”.
Her first top tip is keeping the background neutral.
“I use the same door in my house. Occasionally I’ve used my wardrobe which is also white as the background.”
Sometimes, Chi-Chi has opted to enhance the images by dressing up the background, but typically keeps it minimal.
She said: “On the odd occasion, you can dress up the background, but I would still keep it relatively natural.”
Her second suggestion is to take front, back and detail shots, as well as the labels.
“I keep things really, really simple,” Chi-Chi said. “I also take a shot of the brand. So no matter what brand it is, if it's Primark, if it's Gucci. Whichever brand it is, I’ll take a photo of the brand tag.”
The seller doesn’t list items that are inauthentic, and will always write “genuine” if it’s designer or authentic.
She suggested people upload plenty of photos if they can.
“The more photos the better. If you could get one wearing the item dressed up, I think that’s even better.”
Chi-Chi also makes sure she uses very descriptive language and discusses the quality of the product.
She said: “I make it clear as to what style I think the product is. Most of the things I sell are clothes so I would say, ‘This is a very elegant dress’. I wouldn’t just say ‘This dress…’”
The influencer also suggests where the item could be worn.
On pricing, the seller tries to stick to Vinted’s suggested pricing structure but also applies common sense.
If she wants to sell a particular product quickly, she might price it relatively low, or accept offers from buyers.
“It depends on the product but most of the time I always try to price it for a reasonably affordable price.
Chi-Chi also suggested researching trending items by dedicating time to scrolling through the Vinted app to see what’s already selling.
Some knowledge of current fashion trends can also help.
She said: “Try to get to know the ‘it’ brands of the season or the items selling out in stores.”
Seasonal trends will likely also play a significant role in whether something sells or not, so keeping track of the calendar could be key.

Chi-Chi said: “Make note of key seasons and calendar dates where people will be searching particular items e.g., ‘wedding season’, ‘Christmas parties’.”
Chi-Chi has teamed up with courier experts at DeliveryApp, putting together a guide on the top mistakes sellers make online.
Top seller mistakes
Bad pricing
“Research the market value of similar items and set a competitive price. Consider factors such as condition, age, brand, and demand when determining the pricing.”
Taking too long to reply
“Not responding promptly to inquiries from potential buyers gives off a bad impression. Answer questions, provide additional information, and address concerns in a timely manner to build trust and ensure a positive experience for the buyer.”
Risky transactions
“Use secure payment methods and delivery options where possible and follow the recommended procedures of the online platform to minimize any risks.”
Not using a reliable delivery company
“Opting for a reputable courier service ensures that your goods are handled with care and delivered promptly, enhancing customer satisfaction and building your reputation as a trustworthy seller.”
DeliveryApp CEO Dwain McDonald said: “There’s no point in selling online if the goods never make it to their intended destination.
“Choosing a responsible courier can remove the stress of having to deal with disputes and lost items.
“It’s best to choose a service that can ensure real-time tracking and that all items are covered from theft, loss or damage while they are being transported.”
