Sainsbury's has brought back their 'Shop for Points' loyalty challenge

Sainsbury's customers can earn extra points over the next few weeks when doing their shopping.

All customers need to do is spend £1 or more at a time in a few separate transactions.

The 'Shop for Points' loyalty challenge originally launched in May, earlier this year.

Customers can grab bonus points for shopping at Sainsbury's five times between July 10 to August 6.

Martin Lewis' MoneySavingExpert has urged Sainsbury's shoppers to look out for this promotion in their email as they have a chance to make more for their money.

On their website they said: "Unlike most other offers of this type, where you need to buy specific items, all you need to do here is spend £1 or more at a time in a few separate transactions.

Someone holding a Nectar Card on top of a Sainsbury's plastic bagNectar cards can now be used for discounts on 300 productsPA

"So it's a no-brainer if you were planning to do that anyway."

Those who qualify will need to opt into the challenge to take part.

People can do this through the Nectar app. If people don't opt in, they won't earn any bonus points.

Instead they'll get the regular amount of Nectar points they are entitled to.

Not all Nectar members will be eligible to take part in this promotion.

The previous version of the offer was open to "millions" of shoppers – however this time, Sainsbury's have opened the scheme up to "selected customers" only.

Those who have been chosen to take part should see a 'tile' in their Nectar app. If they don't currently have the app, they can download it for free from the Apple App Store or Google Play Store.

Customers who qualify and opt into the scheme just need to spend just £1 or more at a time in store or online at Sainsbury's.

People shopping online should have their Nectar and Sainsbury's account linked to secure the bonus.

Customers could earn 100s of extra points – worth up to a few quid to spend at Sainsbury's, Argos, eBay and more.

Sainsbury's told MSE the number of bonus points on offer varies for each customer.

In one example the money saving website saw, the offer was for 700 bonus points in total (worth £3.50).

Supermarket rival Tesco has also brought back its own 'Clubcard Challenges' scheme this month.

Tesco customers may be able to earn up to £50 in bonus points over the next few weeks - which can be doubled to £100.

The offer will run from July 15 to August 25.
