NatWest customers were left unable to access their mobile banking app and internet banking for hours this morning

NatWest has apologised after customers were left unable to log into the banking app and website.

The bank told social media users there had been a "glitch", adding: "We were experiencing some issues earlier this morning however the mobile app and online banking service should now be working as expected."

NatWest asked customers to "try logging in as normal" and offered "apologies for any inconvenience caused".

Customers took to social media this morning in a rage about not being able to access their banking app and online accounts.

Problems were being reported on the Downdetector website this morning with the first issues being reported at around 5.30am this morning, and peaking at about 7.30am.

One user on X said: "@NatWest_Help I cannot get into my online banking or use the app. I have been trying to do this for hours! Really inconvenient as I need to send some payments!! When will this be resolved??"

Another said: "@NatWest_Help your mobile app and online banking are still down. Your service status page is out of date and my internet connection is fine. Update soon please?"

In a post on X, NatWest said: "We're aware that customers currently aren't able to access their app or online banking. We've reported this internally and it's currently being looked into by our tech team. We're hoping this will be resolved as soon as possible."

NatWest said users can check their website for updates on its service status.

So far, more than 3,900 reports have been logged on DownDetector.

Of those who reported problems, 64 per cent said they were struggling with mobile banking, while 25 per cent were having issues with online banking.

The remaining 10 per cent said the problem was with online login.

NatWest advised those who need to complete a service to consider doing it another way.

On their website they said: "If you need to complete a transaction you can continue to do this using our Telephone Banking service or alternatively you can visit one of our Branches or ATMs.

"If you are looking to make a payment with us today, please consider sending money another way. You can still use your debit or credit card to make payments and get cash from ATM’s, branches and the Post Office. "

However, in response, one user said: "Online down - “Visit a branch”… The one in my town closed last year. The one closest to me where I am in London closed earlier this year.

"The nearest branch, even in Central London, is now a mile away. Any better suggestions?"

NatWest has apologised to customers after its online and mobile banking services suffered outages on Tuesday morning.
